Can’t Decide? Choose an award-winning peony!

Pink Hawaiian Coral

It can be hard to decide on a peony. Afterall, they are all pretty darn lovely.

But you’ll never go wrong with choosing an award winner.

The American Peony Society gives two awards annual to outstanding peonies.

The Award of Landscape Merit winners are “free-standing and reliable beauties for the landscape”. Specifically, an ALM winner has superior ornamental value, overall appearance in the landscape throughout the growing season, and reliable performance across North America.  Plants are required to be self-supporting in wide ranging weather conditions and reliably display their flowers.   Special attention is given to foliage quality throughout the growing season.

Coral Sunset, Pink Hawaiian Coral, Buckeye Belle and Cytherea are all fabulous examples of ALM winners.

The American Peony Society also awards a Gold Medal to the peony of the year for flower par excellence! Winners of this award specifically are chosen for, “flower beauty and consistency, as well as, commercial availability and market price.”

Red Charm, Golden Glow, Kansas, and Coral Charm are some of the APS Gold Medal winners of the past and remain excellent specimens today!

Often, a peony variety will take home both honors. These double winners are a sure bet for beauty, reliability.

Coral Sunset, Pink Hawaiian Coral, Buckeye Belle and Cytherea are a few of the excellent choices of peonies available with both the Award of Landscape Merit and the Gold Medal to their honor.

I love recommending these award winners. There’s a reason many of these are best sellers.
