FAQ: When will my peonies ship?
It never fails, this is my most asked question this time of year, and for good reason! If you ordered peonies, you want to get them in the ground!
Here are some of the factors that determine when we begin harvesting:
Rainfall: We want roots to be nicely hydrated with well-developed eyes. A couple good soaking rains before we harvest is critical. Plus it makes digging them up a lot easier!
Digging, Washing, Dividing, Labeling: There’s a big process that happens before the peony roots are packaged in the box and sent their way to you. We try to get this part done as fast as we can so the roots are fresh and the peonies can get back in soil where they belong. While they are with us, they are stored in cool, dry conditions with just a hint of moisture. Think the inside of a refrigerator.
Partner Growers: Some varieties are grown by partners of ours. When they arrive here, we get them on their way as fast as possible.
Manpower: I spend almost all my waking hours packing and shipping peonies once all of the above has been tackled.
The bottom line: You can expect that your peonies will be shipped in early to mid-October.

This collection of peonies has been strategically chosen to give five weeks of peony bloom, featuring a variety of color and form. When you order the Friendship Peony Collection, you will receive 5 bare root peonies, each a different variety to bloom in succession over an 5 week timeframe.
The collection is offered in limited quantities in collaboration with the Saint Paul-Changsha China Friendship Garden in St. Paul, MN. Aportion of the proceeds raised from the sale of this collection will be donated to the garden.
Varieties will be chosen in the fall at harvest time by Laura Kubes of Hidden Spring Peony Farm. This “Farmer’s Choice style of peony collection allows you to receive the best of what’s coming out of the field this fall. Trust us to curate a collection for you just as a friend would. Be sure you will receive five healthy peony roots that will bloom in a variety of shapes, colors, and forms as a stunning display in your garden. Value of the five peonies will be at or above the $175.99 price of the collection.

The Saint Paul-Changsha China Friendship Garden is a sister-city project of St. Paul, MN. Its Chinese name is Liu Ming Yuan and its poetic name is The Garden of Whispering Willows Flowing Waters. St. Paul’s sister-city of Changsha is home to many Hmong, hence the garden also holds the name LUB VAJ PHOOJ YWG and is the only Chinese garden in the world with Hmong elements. The garden is the result of horticultural and architectural collaboration and a place to find beauty and culture just outside of downtown St. Paul in Phalen Park.
